So, uh, how’s it going?

If you haven’t been able to tell quite yet, this isn’t the post we’re normally posting around here. There’s usually more audio and it gets kind of chatty around here. However, that is not the case this time around. It’s just my thoughts, my fingers, and I joining you this week; no co-host (or, in the case of written word, co-author). I haven’t specifically talked to any of my former co-hosts about this iteration of Happy Hour; but a few of them will be getting a notification around when this goes up, extending an offer to write.

That’s not to say there aren’t any plans for Happy Hour to return to its broadcasting glory, and those plans have been discussed with Big O and other parties that may be involved when that happens. However, there will be more on that during the 2013 First Quarter State of the Pod Address that will be posted to our YouTube channel on Friday, March 15^th, 2013.

In the meantime, I can tell you about this iteration of Happy Hour. Though no plans are anywhere near finalized, it is with my intention to offer up as close to 52 issues of Happy Hour a year via this new format. Perhaps more if former co-hosts have an interest in providing a voice, but at the bare minimum I’ll be chiming in from week to week with my thoughts. I have to sit down and look at a calendar officially, but depending on holiday’s, there’s always a chance I won’t meet the magic number of 52, but that’s how our podcast would operate too.

I started writing blogs for another website all together, Gimme This & That, a few years back. It was then, and perhaps it’s because it was the style I was writing in, that I realized that blogs were just written versions of Internet Broadcasts.

I’m not quite sure I necessarily believe that anymore… which is weird as I write a blog that’s purpose is to replace a podcast. However, that is the purpose of this blog, to give YOU, the fans of our dopey little podcast, something that can hopefully give you something to entertain yourself, engage yourself, and keep yourself busy.

It’s hard to believe, but there have been tweets and emails asking “What the fuck happened?” Even some requests for clips and bits of old… again, something that will be addressed during the State of the Pod Address. It does bring a smile to my face that there is an interest out there. It’s that reason that I want to do something on this channel of The hhwst.net Radio Network.

I’ll end up writing about things that I see in the news that I want to comment on, a various topic that may have sparked my interest during the week, a review of something that I want to rave about and perhaps even fan driven! So, make sure to hit up one of the various methods to send in your questions or ideas for what we (assuming that there is more than just me writing these issues) should write about! You can also comment on the blog itself.

I want to start out by saying that I’m truly impressed that Happy Hour went week to week as long as it did… the longest run prior to this was about 25-30 weeks, tops. So, for me, huge accomplishment with this show and all the others that followed. Happy Hour, through out all the incarnations, has been a fun show for me. We’ve gone through many of a change in the three years we’ve been back, and all for the better. I loved that we moved into a studio with The Stabcast (which is still going strong, and I am very happy for Santoro and his accomplishments), that we were featured on Stickam on a weekly basis (we had huge success with The Zombcast, until a certain nerd broke my spirit), and that I had the vision to expand one dopey Internet Broadcast into a network of shows (not that it was an original concept).

That last point– expanding into a network– is where, I believe, a lot of my trouble started. It was too much, too quick. I was hosting up to five to six shows a week, doing the editing (if needed) and publishing, and trying to write blogs for each show. Yes, I had help on-air with all my wonderful co-hosts, but with a full time job during the day and doing the network for free (as it should), I got stressed out. If I let one day go by without doing some work, I had a pile of things to catch up on, and I would let it go because I had no desire to work on it. Then the pile grew and grew and grew. I loved doing all of it… and I hated it.

I mentioned that my spirit was broken, and I will admit it has played a role in my absence from internet broadcasting. I’ve chatted with a friend about it recently and he was under the assumption that was the main reason I’ve walked away. That couldn’t be further from the truth. It may have been the sole reason The Zombcast broke away, but not the whole network. There are so many more things I want to do– That’s a reason I’ve taken a few steps back. My son and my family… now that’s the reason.

Every father out there understands where I’m coming from and I’m not going to get into the details of why and what we do as a family, but rest assure, it’s worth not doing radio six days a week. And I still attempt to do Academic Nerds from time to time, but schedules conflict and whatnot. But more on that later. As I said, I’m opting to spend my weekends in the house (or out of the house) with Jen and Trey and that’s the best decision I’ve ever made… the last seven plus months have flown by with my little guy and I don’t know if I could live with myself if I had to miss it for podcasting.

I did mention another reason for the setback in radio– other projects. I’ve spent most of my life focusing on two things that I’ve wanted to do– wrestling and broadcasting. I’m satisfied with how my wrestling career turned out… my dream was to wrestle in front of a paying audience and I did it quite a few times. I may not have made it to the grandest stage of them all, but I always knew that I had better luck being struck by lightening, so I count what I did accomplish as a big ol’ win. Plus, I walked away with only ever sustaining one major injury and arthritis in my knees.

I’ve enjoyed my broadcasting career thus far and think I’ve had, for a dopey podcast, a bunch of success and have a sense of pride for what I’ve accomplished. I don’t fee like it’s as big of as win as my wrestling stint was (which is odd, as I’ve had thousands of people listen to me talk every week, but only a hundred or so watch me wrestle at each event), but I think my broadcasting dream has turned into an entertainment dream. I have a lot of creativity in me and I can’t let it go to waste. I have about four years left in me where I can take a big leap of faith in one of my passion projects, and I’m currently working on two of them; a third to start this winter.

So yes, I’ve stepped away from radio because I want to enjoy time with my family. But, that doesn’t mean I’ve given up! I’m working on my first (official) novel and a web-series. This winter I plan on starting research for the movie I want to write/direct. It may not be radio, but I’m still doing things for me while being a dad, and I think that’s the most important thing in life… take care of the family first, then have some fun for yourself (by the way, I’m not perfect in any way, shape, or form… this is my first rodeo as a dad and I’ve made plenty of mistakes… I’m just lucky that Trey loves me unconditionally and that Jen is very forgiving and/or accepting of my idiocies).  I may not have followed that credence to a T yet, and honestly, that little saying (which I’m sure has been said before, so I’m not taking credit for it) it just came to mind as I typed this, but I think it’s something that we all can agree with and follow.

So… after close to a thousand words, I’ve informed you what’s been going on and parts of the future with my other projects, but what of this grand network of shows? Well, I’m not 100% sure of the game plan, and I’ll try to have a better idea in the next week or two, but there is a game plan. I plan to officially relaunch the network on January 1st, 2013. I hope to chat with Garrett and perhaps start Academic Nerds back up before then, but definitely hope to have it part of the weekly line up on that date. I need to sit down and figure out what I want to do with the show that started it all and all the other ones. I can tell you this… I won’t be part of all them, not anymore. At that rate, I don’t know if I’ll be part of more than Academic Nerds… which leads to an interesting turn of events for Happy Hour, eh? Take everything I just said with a grain of salt… as I haven’t thought of ANYTHING for the network yet… nothing concrete at least.

“Hey, hey… he said it! He said!”

Very recently, I found out that an old friend of mine passed away. Peter*and I used to be neighbors and were, what I would consider, friends. I remember vividly a night of drinking that involved tequila; liquor that normally would make both of us want to tear our souls out because we’ve looked into the arc of the covenant. For whatever reason that night, we were the gods of tequila. Nothing could take us down; at least three other people that night were not so lucky, sharing ONE bathroom to puke. It looked like we performed an exorcism in there.

Peter even partook in some radio show shenanigans back when we were doing Creepcast Season 1 with Jay, Waskie, and Redding. I believe Jay and one of the other guys took the week off, so we had Shannon Cole and Joe Caliva in as guest hosts. A little known fact about Shannon Cole is that she has a fear of… midgets. Yep, midgets. During a break (yeah, we used to take breaks) I ran outside, where I noticed Peter standing outside, and asked him to walk in as a midget about seven minutes after I went back into the studio. Keep in mind; he was over six feet tall. Sadly, I am unable to find any remaining copies of that first season of Creepcast; the reaction was priceless.

Unfortunately, a few years ago we had a falling out and never spoke with each other since then. And this brings me to the point of this blog—don’t let stupid shit get in the way of friendships. I should know this by now, as stupid shit prevented Jonesy/Santoro and I from really talking for about a year or two, but even at twenty-seven, you need to be reminded about these things. At least I was able to rekindle a friendship with those guys; with Peter? I’ve missed my chance. Granted, I’m not as effected had the role of Peter been swapped out with some of my other friends; I’d need medication. However, Peter and I were friends and could have had a stronger friendship if either of us tried to contact one another over the last two plus years. This does open my eyes to the fact that there are people out there that I do consider (or have considered) friends and we are in a similar situation. Perhaps the next year we should all consider rekindling lost friendships—you never know if tomorrow will be too late.

Something else that I have realized because of this—it’s time to take better care of myself. I say this a lot, however, for the first time I know someone who is my age and has passed away; far too early. Ten years ago I felt immortal… sometimes I treat my body like I’m seventeen still. It’s time to realize that tomorrow could be it; so, while living life to its fullest, it’s time to start taking care of ourselves.

Now, let’s get to the point, shall we? Today is Thanksgiving… the one day a year that no one looks at you strangely for stuffing your face with too much food and passing out before 8pm. It’s about the time of the year where we all give up on trying to get in shape and say I’ll start with the New Year, but we don’t really mean it. It’s also a time to look back and give thanks for everything that (positively) has happened to you in the past year (even the unluckiest person can find one thing to be thankful for). I’ve faltered with my goals this year… my biggest weakness is my laziness… I’ve realized that over the last few weeks and plan on correcting that. Not with the new year; NOW. It all starts with committing to THIS blog once a week again. Then gradually work everything else back into my daily schedule. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, I’ll sit around and be productive. With all that being said, I’ve created a list of five things I’m thankful for this last year… be prepared for the lack of funny… save for number 5.

5. Food

I’m thankful that this bird was a fat bird. Also? That human fatties don’t get stuffed and eaten.

Obviously we all are thankful for food; it’s what gives us energy (and Dunkin coffee)! But, being the fatty I am, I really appreciate good food. It’s the sole reason I even attend Thanksgiving events. There’s nothing like a good piece of turkey with a side of mashed taters, stuffing, and a big ol’ puddle of gravy. Then, the pies? GOD YES THE PIES! Apple pie, pumpkin pie, PIE PIE… it’s all so good. If Thanksgiving were 5 days a week, I would be in heaven. Literally… all that food on a daily basis?!? Death would be awaiting me with open arms.

“Mad” Mike and I started Crude Humor Studios a little over a year ago. We may not have done much yet, but we’ve been working hard on scripts for skits, sharts, and web series. Over the course of the next 7 days, the first draft of Season One of our first web series will be completed! I’m so excited about that project, as well as all the skits we ideas for (just need to sit down and write them). And once the first draft of the web series is completed, I’ll be working on a script for a feature film that will be a product of Crude Humor Studios (and other producers I’m sure) and my first real novel. Crude Humor Studios has opened my mind creatively, and for that I am thankful.

3. Fans

The love me! And rightfully so… I’m AWESOME!

The fans (that’s you!) of The hhwst.net Radio Network are a big reason why I talk for hours and hours a week. First and foremost, I do the shows because I enjoy sitting down and talking with my friends. However, if I didn’t get support from the fans, I don’t know that I would do all the shows I do. Granted, I’ve rearranged shows in such a way that they don’t get in the way of my home life now, but I still find a way to do as much as I do.

2. Friends and Family

Who said friends and family were perfect?

My friends and family have been so supportive over my lifetime, and this past year is no different. Whether it’s a bad day at the office or a crazy idea I have; they have been there to cheer me up or cheer me on. Without these people, I probably would have been dead from alcohol poisoning long ago. Since my days of wrestling until now, when I want to write a movie, a novel, host radio shows, etc, they have always had my back. Thank you to all these wonderful people.

Yes, my friends, I have gone there. Despite the sheer masculinity I give off, I’m a lover. And the single greatest thing to happen to me this year was meeting my girlfriend, Jennifer. I’ve never fell for someone harder, never felt more like me around someone, and never have wanted to die for someone harder. No one deserves more thanks than her (save for my mother for birthing me) for whipping me into shape. I do things that I never thought I would ever do, and it’s all for love. If having Jen in my life wasn’t enough, we are 54 days away from having our first son. She has given me the single greatest gift—nurturing him and keeping him safe until he is ready to come out. Thank you Jennifer. Thank you for believing in me, for loving me, and for just being you.

It feels good to write again and I can’t wait to share with you guys my ramblings that this fat kid from Philly has; most people don’t get this chance to share a part of themselves with a huge  group on a consistent basis; I get to do it several times a week.

Some people should follow the light

Doug Hutchison, born May 25^th, 1960 in Dover, Delaware. He is an actor and has been such films as The Green Mile, I Am Sam, and Punisher: War Zone. He has been in such television shows as Lost and 24. The rest of his resume is quite impressive as well.

Courtney Stodden, born August 29^th, 1994 in Tacoma, Washington. She is a singer and model. Best known for marrying Doug Hutchison.

I know what you’re thinking, that I must have made a typo in one of the birth years. Nope… Doug Hutchison is 51 years old. Courtney Stodden is 16 going on 17. And they’re married.

Proof? Or good photoshop?

There has been some controversy over this marriage: She’s 16! There’s no way she’s only 16! If we take that birth certificate as proof that she is 16, then – HOLY FUCK SHE’S ONLY 16!!! I get younger girls marrying older guys; you see it all the time. A 34 year age difference isn’t even abnormal in the younger girl/older guy relationship. However, usually the older guy is in his 60s or 70s and the younger girl is in her 20s or 30s.

I ALMOST see where Doug Hutchison is coming from. He’s an older gentleman with some money and in Hollywood; again not abnormal for someone like this to go after a younger girl; however SHE’S 16! It’s kind of creepy and illegal (save for the fact that her PARENTS signed off on it).

I’m not sure where Courtney Stodden is coming from, or her parents. Maybe it’s because I’m not a girl; maybe it’s because I don’t like little girls. I guess there’s the whole “he’s in Hollywood” thing. But I don’t know that he has connections that good to get you gigs. The money? Perhaps; but how much could he have for the small roles he’s had, not that I’m judging (his monetarial worth, I am judging him as a human); he’s way better off than me or anyone else I know.

Their appearance on Father Albert seems like it was an interesting one. Here are a few lines from the interview:

Last week, on July 13th, I shared a birthday day with Julius Caesar, Harrison Ford, Benny Benassi and some actress named Git Gay. We took off from Happy Hour this week so I could spend Saturday celebrating with family and friends; and for the last few years my restaurant of choice has been Dave and Buster’s by a mall here in Philadelphia.

Not your traditional bar that we would typically talk about on Thirsty Tuesdays, but if you haven’t heard of this place; A) do you live under a rock? And B) get your ass here if you want to enjoy yourself (and if you’re older; make yourself feel young again)! Food, drinks, and games are good for everyone at any age (unless you’re under 21 – but they have soda).

From the starters, that include: Soft Pretzel Bites, Spinach Dip, Wings, Potato Skins, and more, to the entrees: Steaks, Pasta, Burgers and more; your mouth will water with all the selections they have. I tend to go with the Dave’s™ Double Cheeseburger with fries and the Pretzel Bites to start… I want to go back already.

With over 20 beers to choose from and dozens more of mixed drinks, you’ll be able to find something that you’ll love. I for one love the TNTea and tend to get at least one of these per visit before I move on to beer. In the 6 years I’ve now been able to drink at this establishment I have yet remembered to order a shot of Lethal Weapon or a Scooby Snack… but both look awesome.

On top of all this, are the games! Remember Chuck-e-Cheese when you were a kid? Well, now that you’re an adult, you have a place to come and feel like a kid again. Classics like skeeball, Pac-Man, and more to new games like Guitar Hero, DDR, and more are all available. They even have touch screen games, but not the ones you see at the typical bar. My personal favorite is Super Trivia.

Take note of some final area of Dave and Buster’s: billards, darts, and bowling. That’s right, you have CLASSIC bar games here as well. Why go anywhere else?

Aside from all these, certain Dave and Buster’s offer even more! For example, down in Philadelphia on Columbus is right on the Delaware River. They have a dockside bar where they have live music shows every weekend; in fact at the first ever Dockside Fest (2010) we were there to support an acoustic artist, David Scott Bradford.

Back to 1993, not quite the first, and definitely not the last, ‘What the Fuck?!?!?!’ moment happened right here in America. During the night of June 23, 1993, John Wayne Bobbitt arrived at his apartment, that was shared with his then wife Lorena Bobbitt, in Manassas, Virginia, highly intoxicated after a night of partying. According to testimony given by Lorena in a 1994 court hearing, he then raped her. Afterwards, she got out of bed and went to the kitchen for a drink of water. According to an article in the National Women’s Studies Association Journal, while in the kitchen Lorena noticed a carving knife on the counter and “memories of past domestic abuses raced through her head.” Grabbing the knife, she entered the bedroom where John was sleeping and proceeded to cut off almost half of his penis.

After assaulting her husband, Lorena left the apartment with the severed penis, drove a short while, then rolled down the car window and threw the penis into a field… yep; tossed it like it was an unwanted hot dog. The fact that it was recovered and reattached is amazing.

I tell you all of this because 8 years and 20 days later, something even more fucked up happened. And, regardless if you live under a rock or not, prepare yourself; as it makes me cringe every time I think about it. I’ve buried the lead long enough… this is the headline that most reporters have used (which does not bury the lead at all): Man’s penis cut off, put through garbage disposal.

Right?

The opening line to the article blows my mind as they continue to NOT bury the lead: Prosecutors say an argument over houseguests led a Southern California woman to cut off her estranged husband’s penis and put it down a garbage disposal.

OVER HOUSEGUESTS!?!? What the fuck happens when they argue about something serious? Like bills??? And what was going through Catherine Kieu’s head? Hmm… well just cutting it off has been done; it’s cliché. Let’s shove it down a garbage disposal as well and make sure it’s never usable again!

On Monday night, police say Kieu spiked a meal and served it to the victim.

SHE DRUGGED HIM! It’s not like she just went crazy and took a knife to him and whatnot. NO… she knew what she was going to do. She drugged him and waited. Want more proof that she knew she was going to cut off his most precious body part?

The 60-year-old man started to feel sick and went to lie down, then awoke tied to the bed as Kieu attacked him with a 10-inch kitchen knife, police said.

SHE TIED HIM TO BED!!! WHY!?!?! WHY IS SHE SO EVIL!?!?!?

She then put the penis down a garbage disposal, police said.

ARGGGGGH!!!

Police did not release the victim’s name. He underwent surgery and was listed in good condition at University of California at Irvine Medical Center, hospital spokesman John Murray said.

In good condition… IN GOOD CONDITION!?!?!? False. No one can be in good condition when their junk was down a garbage disposal!\

The only true justice that can be served is to chop off her boobs, throw them in a blender, and make here drink them!

Excuse me while I go vomit and crawl into the fetal position for the next week.

The only thing more America is Superman… and he’s an alien

The 4^th of July is THE definition of America. If you don’t celebrate this holiday, you’re a communist and a traitor and don’t deserve to be in my country, sirs! If you want to stay in this great country, then you’ll have to play by the rules… America rules. To help you, here’s an outline of my day on the 4^th of July… do this every year until you die and you may go to heaven… America heaven.

FOLLOW THE RAINBOW

July 4^th – Steel Tip’s AMERICAN Day

10:00am – Wake Up. Take dogs out. Take 45 minute shit.

11:00am – Grab a beer.

11:15am – Grab another beer.

11:25am – Chug two beers.

11:30am – Start the grill.

11:32am – Kick the grill out of frustration and grab a real American grill that uses good ol’ fashion charcoal.

11:35am – After successfully starting the flame, grab lighter fluid.

This flame isn’t high enough

11:36am – Stop. Drop. Roll.

11:40am – Grab another beer after near death experience. Also a shot of rum.

11:45am – Put 16 oz steak on grill. This is breakfast, so keep it light.

11:46am to 12:15pm – Drink consistency (gotta stay hydrated) while grilling up that steak.

12:20pm – Sit down with steak and milk with a splash of rum.

12:35pm – Lay down for nap.

3:00pm – Wake up.

3:15pm – Find a communist and punch them.

3:20pm – Fire up the grill as party guests arrive.

3:30pm – Have someone cover the grill. Do a keg stand

4:00pm – Wake up from being flipped over during keg stand.

4:15pm to 7:15pm – Drink nonstop and eat as many burgers and hot dogs as possible.

7:30pm – Gather illegal fireworks together.

7:35pm to 7:45pm – Torture non-American friends by pointing fireworks at them and pretending to light them. Then punch another communist.

8:00pm – Light fireworks

You’re a communist if you can’t replicate this

9:00pm – Be taken to hospital. Keep finger on ice.

NOW you’re Amerian!

11:00pm – Rest/Heal up and get ready for next year!

The age old question every human being has about anything – robots, zombies, new discoveries, time travel, etc – is always the same; ‘Can we fuck it?’ When the creepy robot that the Japanese created a few months ago hit the net, many questions were asked. Most of them were in the vein of ‘Can we fuck it?’ Don’t believe me? Watch this video and read the comments below it.

Even Robert Zemeckis toyed with the idea in Back to the Future. When Marty goes back to 1955, he has a run in with his mother (as a teenager) and she fancies him. Thankfully (or to some, unfortunately) they didn’t knock boots. It’s not weird because of them being from different times… its incest… I think.

Recently, a study was completed stating that it would be a bad idea to travel back in time and have sex with the natives. Well, bad for the natives… seems like sea monkey’s prove that having sex with different generations could hurt your chances on living a full, long life.  I’m not going to get into the chances of survival for procreating in the past and/or future.

What happens if you go back and procreate though? Past or future, if you spread your seed and father a child, or bear a child as a female, it will affect the time line. If you’re going to chance this move, because you can’t keep it in your pants, the future is the better bet as you won’t screw with time. Perhaps you were always supposed to go to the future and pass on the family line.

However, if you go to the past and create life… that’s something that was never suppose to be. 2011 DNA entering 1981 DNA to create 1996 DNA… or something like that. New diseases could be entered into a time that’s not prepared for them, that child could become super powered or with extra chromosomes, and who knows what else.

Worse yet, what if you procreated with someone from you family in the best? Your mom (unlikely)? Aunt? Cousin? Another unholy combination that could be more like Bizzaro than Kal-El. And the mental scars it could leave on your brain! Is it worth it?

Add sex to the list of cons for time travel.
