Garrett crossed paths with The hhwst.net Radio Network when Kev was looking for a new co-host for Happy Hour during the first Happy Hour Idol in 2010. He was originally suppose to be a part time co-host, unfortunately schedules never worked out. As The hhwst.net Radio Network grew, so did the content that was being provided on the website, specifically blogs. Kev, a huge fan of Kevin Smith, started writing SMonday, a blog about the world of Kevin Smith posted on Mondays. Kev had only written two or three editions of it when Garrett called attention to being part of that podcast, being as how he also is a huge Kevin Smith fan. It grew from there into SMonday Pod, where Garrett has taken the lead as host to steer this delicate ship without tarnishing the good name of Kevin Smith.
After several months of SMonday Pod, Garrett had suggested to Kev that the two come up with a different way to do the show– one that involved little to no work prep wise. The two started talking about The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and comic books. They decided to part ways completely from the “Kevin Smith” themed show and rebrand as Academic Nerds!

Garrett has been a pleasure to host a podcast with. With having almost the same interests, our conversations are some of the most natural in the podcasting world today. A brief, 10 minute conversation, on Happy Hour turned into the discovery a great friendship. Garrett’s just as busy and ambitious as I am, and that’s why he’s the unofficial network partner (something about he doesn’t have time to help out all the time for free). We’ve gone a while without recording, but when we come back– and we are coming back– it’s going to be like we never stopped.
